Dear Parents and Caregivers,

I am Gordon Edwards and I am privileged to teach your children for 2014 this year. I am looking forward to start the term with a positive attitude helping your children succeed. I have recently come from a small school in Kaikoura and I am looking forward to a fresh start at Rowandale School. My interests are sports and I am hoping to get involved in extra-curricula activities outside of Rowandale School. I am passionate about making a difference in your childrens learning this year.

Swimming: During this term we will be swimming so it would be great if you could get your children to bring their togs on the specific days. The days we will be swimming are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. However, it would be great if they could bring their togs everyday so they will not forget.

Topic: We are going to dive into our topic treasure for this term. Students will be exploring treasure throughout the term. The children will be getting involved in many activities such as treasure hunting, using  a map, and learning about all things treasure! Treasure can come in all forms such as the people closest to you and treasure from gold and jewellery. Many students during this term will be using a treasure map finding buried treasure! The students are excited about treasure!

Uniform: It was great to see the students come back to school in their uniforms. Please make sure during the term that no polar-fleece or undershirts are worn. Also, make sure your children name their school uniform so It doesn’t get lost or misplaced.

Homework: Reading is an important tool for any child’s education. I will be sending a book home with your child every night starting in week 2 to help your children become better readers. If your child could bring their book bag back every morning that would be greatly appreciated.

BBQ: There will be a barbeque held on 19 February at 5:30-7:00. It’s a get together where parents can meet the teachers. Many of the teachers are looking forward to meeting many of the parents so make sure you come down for the barbeque! I’m sure there will be plenty of food for everyone to eat!

I hope to meet many parents and caregivers as I am enthusiastic to meet each of you. I have an open door policy where I am available if you have an issue. Please feel free to come and see me.

Regards
